US bands Asteroid Witch and Greenseeker are out with the split album "Asteroid Witch / Greenseeker", and this is a production that might be of interest also for fans of progressive rock and metal. Doom metal is the recurring element throughout here, and both bands explore a variety of the form that does touch base with elements inside the progressive rock and metal universe. Asteroid Witch comes across as a meeting of minds and ideas between early days Electric Wizard and mid 70's Hawkwind, with a liberal array of cosmic effects, distanced psychedelic style vocals and keyboard expansions to a booming and heavy set doom metal foundation. Greenseker explore a variety of doom metal a tad closer to the origins of the style, but expands on this foundation with a female lead vocalist and a penchant to shift over to gliding and floating psychedelic and cosmic landscapes with a more marked keyboard presence of the kind one might encounter among the more improvised oriented space rock bands. In essence a production to seek out if you enjoy different varieties of doom metal that is mixed with different varieties of space rock. An album for the heavy set space cadets if you like.
