Polish band Hegeroth have a history that can be traced back to 2010 or thereabouts, and following an initial demo tape they have 6 full length studio productions to their name as of 2026. The most recent of these is the album "Soaked in Rot", which was self released by the band in the spring of 2026.
Analysis.
This is one of those albums I receive from time to time that doesn't really adhere to or belong to a progressive rock or metal context as such, but that all the same come with some qualities that may be of interest also to this specific audience. But as far as the dominant style and expression goes, this is an extreme metal creation first and foremost.
Among the reasons for me covering this album on this website rather than elsewhere are the many different expressions we get in the course of most of the songs here. This is a band that moves around quite a bit, and while a more primal expression is their specialty in slower paced as well as more hectic parts of the landscapes explored, there is a lot more to this band than merely primal energy.
Side steps into more doom-flavored passages and groove-oriented interludes is a part of the totality here too, but also hard, vibrant and very precise sounding sequences that occasionally also come with a little bit of that eerie and odd mood and atmosphere a band like VoiVod made their particular specialty back in the day. With various atmospheric laden moments, thrash metal flirts and groove metal tendencies also appearing and with a little bit of an avantgarde association present at times too.
Conclusion.
While this isn't an album to seek out if a more sophisticated variety of extreme metal is what you are looking for, those who enjoy a slightly more off kilter variety of this form of music might find this album to be an interesting one. A distinctly primal display of extreme metal, but with occasional eerie flirts in the direction of bands like VoiVod combined with possible subtle incorporations of some of the avantgarde tendencies of a band like Celtic Frost.
