Glorious Wolf - 2023 - Mysterious Traveler [mini-review]
(48:34; Glorious Wolf)
Dutch project Glorious Wolf are out with the album "Mysterious Traveler", and progressive rock is the style explored on this production. This is a mainly instrumental affair, and one that is fairly diverse in terms of orientation too. While a more gentle and atmospheric laden variety of dreamladen progressive rock that comes with ambient tendencies probably is the dominant expression here, we also get flowing sections with a bit more of a neo-progressive character as well as more lavish and majestic keyboard driven landscapes that on occasion reminds me just a little bit of classic era Eloy. Harder and tighter sections are a part of the experience too, some of which probably cross over to the hard progressive rock tradition here and there, and a little bit of a classic era hard rock influx is noted too. The album may be a little bit rough around the edges in a few places, first and foremost for some of the passages with a clear guitar riff dominated arrangement, hence an initial listen may be warranted due to that. But in general a production to seek out if you enjoy progressive rock explored in multiple and accessible manners that cover many of the bases between ambient and atmospheric laden progressive rock through to hard progressive rock.
