Prypiat - 2023 - A Lifeless World [mini-review]

(40:45; Prypiat)

French band Prypiat are out with the album "A Lifeless World", and this is a production that might be of interest also for fans of progressive metal. It is a variety of extreme metal we get here, with deep set distorted vocals as a mainstay element and musical landscapes that tend to revolve around more dramatic characteristics. Booming djent style explosions is a dominant aspect of the greater majority of the songs, with rhythm support to match, with some offsets in the intensity department along the way and some deviations into less impact-oriented territories. From a progressive metal point of view the liberal inclusion of atmospheric laden elements and occasional side steps into calmer atmospheric landscapes will be a matter of stronger interest I gather, and the sometime addition of quirky and challenging instrument details perhaps even more so. A production to seek out if a marriage between djent and extreme metal sounds generally interesting, and in particular if you enjoy this combination of style elements explored with a bit of progressive metal intent and flavoring.
