Rubber Tea - 2023 - From A Fading World [mini-review]

(43:14; Tonzonen)

German band Rubber Tea are out with the album "From A Fading World", and progressive rock is the style explored on this production. This is a band with a clear foundation in the jazzrock part of the progressive universe, but this is also one of those bands that use their foundation as a platform to reach out rather than to focus on their core orientation. The songs are generally elegant and sophisticated, often with a bit of a dreamladen character to them, and in between soaring and surging reeds floating on top and driving the song onwards we get charming interludes of borderline pop music sensibility, careful excursions into folk music flavored landscapes, efficient use of chamber music sensibilities and a little bit pf psychedelia too, with some side steps into the kind of darker toned territories fans of vintage era King Crimson may found to be familiar sounding. A production to seek out by those with a general fascination for jazz-oriented progressive rock with a compelling and accessible nature that is also both playful and expressive in execution.
