Unprocessed - 2023 - ...And Everything In Between [mini-review]
(38:39; Unprocessed)
German band Unprocessed: are out with the album "...And Everything In Between", and progressive metal is probably the best overall placement of this album as far as style is concerned. This is one of those albums that due to sheer variety and the numerous alterations in speed, style and intensity falls in under a progressive metal description by default. Extreme metal vocals used in extreme metal settings exist side by side with gentle forays into pop music landscapes with vocals to match here, neo-classical runs and technically challenging instrument details are just as common as booming and bombastic riff and rhythm cascades with a more primal intent, and the borders between funk and djent are less distinct than one can imagine too, with the band panning back and forth between these two styles a bit along the way too. With a few detours into more regular progressive metal landscapes along the way, as well as some more careful and dreamladen ambient interludes. An album to seek out by those who enjoy a more extreme use of variety and contrasting features applied to a strikingly contemporary variety of progressive metal that may possibly also be described as being a part of the extreme section of this particular genre universe.
