This is the debut album by a new project featuring Dr. Space (Korg monotron, Modular Synths, Moog Modules, Wizardry), Rob Lawson (dulcimer, guitar, bass, keyboards, drum programming) and Dan Greene (additional treatments and so much more). Scott used to run Rob’s website, and after more than 20 years of knowing each other, they decided it was time to make some music together. Everyone recorded their parts independently, with Rob then mixing his and Dan’s to which Scott then added his and mixed and mastered the overall sound. Although one may think this would lead to a fragmented approach nothing could be further from truth as this never sounds as if the musicians are playing separately from each other and then finally combining it together. 

This has a very analogue feel, and there are undoubtedly some Eastern influences, with the dulcimer playing a very important part indeed. I can certainly understand why this is being released under a new name as not only is the approach quite different to how Scott normally works, but the sound is also. He allows Rob to often lead the way, and then fills in the gaps to provide counter melodies and additional nuances and sounds which makes for a more rounded aural picture. Given there are some many different influences at play, from electronic through to world, one is never quite sure where the music is going to take us, while the dulcimer sound is often treated and the sparing use of hand drums has quite an impact. This album takes us down a road less travelled, and it makes for an interesting journey. There are two more albums in the works, and I look forward to them both with great interest.
